Rows MCP vs Xero's connector

Xero's connector is free. Rows MCP covers the rest of your clients.

Xero's own connector in Claude is free with a Xero subscription, read-only, and works on one Xero entity at a time. Rows MCP works in any AI tool and adds what a firm with many clients needs: several entities or a whole group in one question, clients on Xero, QuickBooks Online and Zoho Books alike, and the same figures in Excel to check before anything posts.

On QuickBooks Online?

Intuit's own QuickBooks Online MCP server is in beta and open to US customers only, and its open-source one is something you build and run yourself. Rows MCP works outside the US too, with nothing to build.

On Zoho Books?

Zoho MCP lets you set up a server that connects Zoho Books and other Zoho apps to AI tools, with the actions each app exposes. Rows MCP adds Xero and QuickBooks Online in the same connection, and the same figures as live Excel tables you can check.

Running a report or asking for figures only reads your books. Rows MCP can make changes only at an access level you switch on.

Nothing posts until you confirm

Posting from Excel always goes through an approval step before anything changes in your books.

You sign in on your platform's own page, so Rows never holds your password. Revoke access there at any time.

What is MCP and which AI tools does it work with?

MCP is an open standard that lets an AI tool read data from other products, Rows included. Any AI tool that supports MCP can connect to Rows, including Claude, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot and Cursor.

Do Rows MCP and AI Assist cost extra?

No. Rows MCP and AI Assist come with every plan (fair use applies to AI Assist). Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Cursor or any AI tool that supports MCP.

Can my AI tool change my books?

Only if you let it. You choose the access level Rows MCP gets when you connect it, from read-only to making changes. Reports are read-only, and anything posted from Excel still goes through an approval step first.

Do I need an AI tool to use AI Assist?

No. AI Assist is built into the Rows pane in Excel, so there's nothing else to install or sign up for. Ask in plain English and the answer comes from your connected entities.

Which entities can my AI tool see?

Only the ones you choose when you connect Rows MCP. That can be one entity or every entity you manage, across Xero, QuickBooks Online and Zoho Books.

Is my data used to train AI?

No. AI Assist uses a paid AI service that doesn't use your data to improve its models, and conversations are deleted after 7 days, or sooner if you delete them. When you use Rows MCP, the AI tool you connected handles the answer under its own terms.

Can I connect Xero to Claude or ChatGPT with Rows?

Yes. Add Rows MCP as a custom connector in Claude or ChatGPT, with the server URL https://api.rowsapp.com/mcp, and it reads your Xero entities through Rows, along with any on QuickBooks Online or Zoho Books. Microsoft Copilot and Cursor work the same way.
